Functions of Commercial Bank
1. Accepting Deposits: Banks accepts deposits in different types of accounts. They are as follows:-- Current Deposits
- Saving Deposits
- Fixed Deposits
2. Loan Services: Banks Provide loan services to its customers and also perform the functions of advancing loans. Loans provided by banks are as follows:-
- Direct Loan i.e. with collateral
- Short term Loan
- Discounting Bills of Exchange
- Cash Credit
3. Agency Service: Following agency services are provided by the commercial banks:-
- Issue of L/C, bank draft, travelers cheques etc
- Remittance of money
- Collection of cheques
- Acting as executors
- Keeping valuable articles in safe custody
4. Miscellaneous Services: Commercials banks also provide following miscellaneous services. They are as follows:-
- Furnishing of guarantee on behalf of customers
- Underwriting of capital issues
- Payment of cheques, bills promissory notes
- Receipt of payments
- Deals with transactions of foreign exchange business
- Price stability
